I would love to have something that productive to show for the last two years of my life. (And, what a way to sneak in pictures of the drapes!) Seriously, it all looks absolutely great and has come together wonderfully. Salute! I still drool over that 'cabinet'.

Regarding the previous paint on the dado, why is that particular green so prevalent? All the trim in my house was painted that color, too. I can't understand the desire to paint the woodwork in the first place, but snot green? :)

For those wondering, yes, I'm still alive. I just haven't been in a blogging mood lately. I've actually been working on a few projects. One huge and expensive and not to my choosing. The other other small and inexpensive and also not really to my choosing. I'll write about them both soon.

I've been following your blog for years now and have read it in its entirety! I think i can honestly say you are one of my personal heroes! Its largly because of this blog that i want to buy my own feculent hellhole. i even have one in mind, its cheap, its feculent and its federal style. i just need the means to afford to fix it!

Thank you for the large format pictures. It amazes me how that cabinetry looks like it's always been there, what a masterpiece. I love the way the dimensions and elements of it grew out of the constraints of the space it was in; I think that's part of why it is so eye-pleasing (but only part of why!). Makes me never want to buy stock cabinetry in 3 inch width increments again.
I love the subtle way the backsplash with the coffered effect that you made out of shingles relates to the panels on the dado. Yes, they are different, but texturally they have enough in common to chat with each other and you can feel it when you look at the photos. And really, that backsplash is something you just won't see anywhere else.
